Thanksgiving is all about sharing — food, laughter, and gratitude. But when those puppy-dog eyes are staring up from under the dinner table, it’s important to know which Thanksgiving treats are safe to share and which should stay on your plate.
Safe Thanksgiving Foods for Dogs (in moderation):
✅ Turkey (plain, no skin or bones) – A little lean, cooked turkey is perfectly fine and even a good source of protein. Just skip the fatty skin and make sure there are no bones, as they can splinter.
✅ Mashed Potatoes (plain) – If they’re free of butter, garlic, and salt, a small scoop of plain mashed potatoes can be a cozy treat.
✅ Sweet Potatoes & Pumpkin (plain) – These are nutritious for pups! Avoid anything candied or spiced.
✅ Green Beans & Carrots – Crunchy and healthy, they’re great low-calorie snacks.
Foods to Avoid Sharing with Dogs:
🚫 Turkey Bones & Skin – Bones can splinter and cause choking or internal injury, while the skin is too fatty and seasoned.
🚫 Stuffing – It often contains onions, garlic, and spices that are toxic to dogs.
🚫 Gravy – High in fat and salt, gravy can upset your pup’s stomach.
🚫 Desserts (especially pumpkin pie, chocolate, or anything with xylitol) – Sugar, spices, and artificial sweeteners can be dangerous.
🚫 Alcohol & Caffeine – Never safe for pets in any amount.
Pro Tip: Make a small “dog-friendly plate” with plain turkey, veggies, and a touch of mashed potato so your pup feels included without risk.
A little planning keeps everyone happy and healthy — because nothing says gratitude like a wagging tail after a safe, satisfying feast. 🐶💛
