Adjusting Walk Times for Shorter Days

As summer fades and the days get shorter, your dog’s favorite walk may need a little schedule adjustment. Less daylight does not mean less exercise. It just means being a little more intentional about when you head outside.

Try moving your walks earlier in the morning or taking advantage of your lunch break while there is still plenty of natural light. For evening walks, consider going a little earlier than you did during the summer months. This can help you and your pup stay visible and avoid navigating dark sidewalks and streets.

If a nighttime walk is unavoidable, make safety a priority. Use reflective gear, a light-up collar or leash, and stick to familiar, well-lit routes. Keep your dog close and be especially aware of cars, cyclists and other pedestrians.

And remember, shorter outdoor walks can be balanced with indoor activities. A few minutes of training, a puzzle toy, a game of fetch or some indoor play can help keep your dog mentally and physically active.

Fall is a great time to enjoy cooler temperatures and beautiful scenery with your four-legged friend. Just adjust your routine as the daylight changes, and you can keep those tails wagging all season long!
