Watch Out, Pup Parents! Fall Hazards to Keep an Eye On

Fall is a favorite season for many dog owners—crisp walks, colorful leaves, and cozy nights in. But while the cooler weather brings plenty of fun, it also brings a few hidden dangers for your furry friends. Here are some key things to watch out for this autumn:

1. Toxic Mushrooms: After fall rains, mushrooms tend to pop up everywhere. While most are harmless, a few varieties can be highly toxic to dogs. Keep your pup from snacking on anything mysterious during walks or backyard playtime.

2. Cold Weather Prep: As temperatures drop, dogs with short coats or smaller builds may need a little extra warmth. Consider a cozy sweater or jacket for chilly mornings, and make sure outdoor water bowls aren’t freezing over.

3. Fleas and Ticks: Don’t let your guard down just yet! Fleas and ticks can remain active well into fall. Continue your pet’s preventative treatments to protect them from itchy bites and serious illnesses.

4. Leaf Piles: They may look like fun to jump into, but damp piles of leaves can hide mold, bacteria, or sharp objects. Keep playtime in safe, open areas instead.

5. Seasonal Allergies: Yes, dogs can get fall allergies too! If your pup is scratching more than usual or licking their paws, pollen or mold might be the culprit. A quick chat with your vet can help manage symptoms.

6. Halloween and Holiday Hazards: Candy, decorations, and costume materials can all pose risks if chewed or eaten. Keep the treats (especially chocolate!) out of paw’s reach.

With a little extra awareness, fall can be one of the best times of year to enjoy with your dog. So grab a leash, breathe in that crisp air, and have a safe and tail-wagging season! 🐕🍁
